Now I'm trying to work outside first person. I do plan to write more books.

The only problem with seeing people you know is that they know you.

So what does that make you think about God? I think that maybe, if human beings have souls, that maybe their souls are in their eyes. That maybe that's what the color is. Their souls.

I didn't have my own journals, but my mother kept a journal while I was in the hospital, and my father wrote newsletters to keep friends and family updated on my progress.

I hardly ever think about audience. I just try to tell a story for me. I write the kind of story I would like to read.

I write in a rush of memory.

Strange how knowing our story had no happy ending had freed us to live in the moment. We weren’t guy and girl. We weren’t damaged and terminal. We were just now.

There's intense national feeling in America that could be called patriotism.

Technology may change rapidly, but people change slowly. The principals [of design] come from understanding of people. They remain true forever.

Its a matter of style. The Evan Hunter style and the Ed McBain style are very, very different.

I wasn't intentionally trying to create my own path or be original, it was just I needed to say certain things and I needed to express myself, and that's how it came out.

They do tricks even I can't figure out.

My plan is to make the best of whatever comes my way.

I believe that all people that are successful should pay back their cities, their states, their towns, our country.

If we should take a million of worlds like this and number their particles, we should find that there are more Gods than there are particles of matter in those worlds.

You don't drown by falling in water. You only drown if you stay there.
