History of World Student Day  

15th October of every year is celebrated as World Students' Day in honour of former Indian president APJ Abdul Kalam, who was born on the same day in 1931. The day intends to concede the efforts of Kalam towards education and students. The United Ons proclaimed 15th October as World Students' Day in 2010. Every year the world group determines a theme to mark the tradition of the day. This year, the theme for World Students' day is "Learning for people, planet, happiness and peace", which reaffirms the role of education as an important right of every person across the world. Kalam was born in Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu. He studied science and physics during the early years of his life. Kalam committed his life to educating and inspiring students to become the best interpretation of themselves through his insightful lessons. He was also named the 'Missile Man of India' for spearheading the growth of the most substantial Indian missiles and the country's civilian space programmes. Hooccupiedsome of the very eminent positions as a manager with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro). In 2002, this aerospace scientist became the 11th president of the country. Kalam attended the office till 2007 and devoted his life to teaching after that. He was the visiting professor at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Indore, Shillong, and Ahmedabad. Dr Kalam was awarded with India's highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna. Apart from this, he was also honoured with the Padma Bhushan and the Padma Vibhushan for his job as the scientific adviser to the government of India. Kalam breathed his last on 27th July 2015 while providing a lecture at IIM-Shillong when he declined and died from a cardiac arrest. Years after his death, his donations are still recalled as some of the country's best scientific and technical developments.

Kalam was an honourable teacher and observed himself foremost in that role before anything else.
