In this article, we present to you some of the famous Charles Dickens Quotes on Love, Life, Reading, Poverty, Marriage, Friendship, Death, Education and More with their meaning.

Charles John Huffman Dickens was born on 7th February 1812 in Hampshire, England. Dickens is one of the greatest novelists of the Victorian age. He did not opt for formal education. He worked in the House of Commons for the first time in 1832. His journalism, along with the illustrations, was published in 1836 as Sketches by Boz.

In 1836, he published his first successful work, The Pickwick Papers. More than 40,000 copies were sold at the first installment. He also edited Bentley's Miscellany. His most famous story, Oliver Twist, was published in 1838. His other popular works are Barnaby Rudge: A Tale of the Riots of 'Eighty, The Old Curiosity Shop, Nicholas Nickleby. Dickens' novella A Christmas Carol was published in 1843 and is adapted in many other artistic genres.

His stories mainly focused on the poor social conditions of that Victorian era and comically repulsive and strong characters. He died on 9th June 1870 in the United Kingdom at the age of 58.

Dickens published more than 12 major novels and novellas, many short stories, few plays, and many non-fiction books. Many museums are constructed celebrating his achievements like the Charles Dickens Museum, the Charles Dickens Birthplace Museum. Many statues are made in places like Sydney, Philadelphia. Some of the famous Charles Dickens Quotes are below.

It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known.

One finds the ultimate solace thinking that what he did might be a help for someone else. One should always work knowing that his sacrifice and his work might help the other individual.

Have a heart that never hardens, and a temper that never tires, and a touch that never hurts.

We should all be kind. We should have a soft heart that helps others and makes everyone feel better about themselves, a temper that never tires, and a touch that does not hurt anyone. We should be very polite and kind-hearted even if the world makes it hard for us.

We forge the chains we wear in life.

We create our own limitations. We stop ourselves from achieving greater things. We set our boundaries and limit our capabilities. We are our greatest enemy.

There are dark shadows on the earth, but its lights are stronger in the contrast.

Dark and light, good and evil are both sides of a coin. The world has both good and bad, but we should always look for the silver lining in the clouds. We should search for lights even in the dark. Light is much more powerful than the dark.

The pain of parting is nothing to the joy of meeting again.

The pain of parting is huge. Our minds don't accept that pain easily. However, the joy of meeting again is much greater than the pain of parting. When you meet again, that joy and happiness surpass all the previous melancholy.

No one is useless in this world who lightens the burden of it to anyone else.

It is a timeless quote. It means that anyone who is helping others is doing a virtue. No matter how small or big that help is, that still helps, and it is not useless. Rather, it is something to be appreciated.

Nature gives to every time and season some beauties of its own; and from morning to night, as from the cradle to the grave, it is but a succession of changes so gentle and easy that we can scarcely mark their progress.

Change is the ultimate constant. Nature changes too with time. From our birth till the day we will die, nature continues to evolve in its own way. Nature changes from time to time, season to season, and those changes are so minute and slow that they are often unnoticed by all of us.

If there were no bad people, there would be no good lawyers.

If there are no bad people, there is no need for any lawyer in the first place. Lawyers often manipulate and interpret the laws in favor of a particular person. Good lawyers often try to do justice to others. If people stop committing crimes, then the lawyers would have to take the wrong road to keep their bread-and-butter constant.

A loving heart is the truest wisdom.

A loving heart is the most powerful of all. Those who have a loving heart are the wisest people. Those who are wise often need to have a strong and loving heart. A loving heart keeps them grounded.

Electric communication will never be a substitute for the face of someone who with their soul encourages another person to be brave and true.

Electric can never be greater than a soul. Humans are the inventors of machines. Machines are the slaves of humans. Machines can give calculations, formulas, and information, but they can never replace humans.

Reflect upon your present blessings of which every man has many - not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some.

One should always count on the blessings he has. Every human has a past, and everyone faces mishaps and misfortunes, but he should try to look on the brighter side of things. He should be grateful for everything in his life.

It is a melancholy truth that even great men have their poor relations.

Every successful man indeed has his /her poor relations with someone. No matter how great they are, they still have some poor relations in life. Every person has greatness as well as weaknesses. Nobody is perfect.

Charity begins at home, and justice begins next door.

A wonderful fact to reflect upon, that every human creature is constituted to be that profound secret and mystery to every other.

Every human is unique in his or her own way. Everyone is one of a kind. Everyone has a mystery within themselves. As the mystery unfolds, some become known to us while others don't. Everyone surprises each person in their own way.

The whole difference between construction and creation is exactly this: that a thing constructed can only be loved after it is constructed; but a thing created is loved before it exists.

Construction and creation are a lot more different from each other. We love the results after construction, but when it comes to creation, one loves the idea from beforehand and then loves the creation.

Life is made of ever so many partings welded together.

Our life has so many parts. Parts are welded together bits by bits. Small parts are added together to make a whole.

Few more Charles Dickens Quotes...

Home is a name, a word, it is a strong one; stronger than magician ever spoke, or spirit ever answered to, in the strongest conjuration.

Home is not just a mere word. It is beyond magic. Bricks and stones make a house, but people make it home. Love, warmth, and togetherness make a home.

There is a wisdom of the head, and a wisdom of the heart.

Wisdom of the head and wisdom of the heart are two parallel things. Wisdom of the heart and wisdom of the heart both are equally important for making a decision. One should always follow his heart and listen to the logic provided by the brain.

The first rule of business is: Do other men for they would do you.

Business is a very professional and commercial occupation. One should always do for others, and only then they would do for you. Until you give something and aid others, they will not help you too.

There are talkers enough among us; I'll be one of the doers.

Many people talk a lot, but there are very few people who can work. One should not always try to talk but also try to do something. He should work more and talk less.
