John Winston Lennon was born on 9th October 1940 in Liverpool, United Kingdom. He was an English singer, songwriter, musician, peace activist, founder, vocalist, and rhythm guitarist of apparently the most famous band – The Beatles. He had published two collections of nonsense writings and line drawings- In His Own Write and A Spaniard in the Works, in the mid-1960s.
Lennon used to play a variety of musical instruments like electric guitars, six-string bass guitar, mouth organ, and piano. All his songs were considered as the anthems of the anti-war movement.
Lennon had 25 number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. He won the Grammy Award for Album of the year in 1981 for his most popular album, Double Fantasy.
Lennon was voted eighth in the BBC poll of 100 Greatest Britons in 2002. He married Cynthia Powell in 1962, but it did not work out between them due to his jealousy, anger, and violent nature. Lennon said that he never questioned his chauvinistic behaviour until he met Ono. He wrote the song "Getting Better" about his own story.
Lennon wrote and recorded "Give Peace a Chance" which was interpreted as an anti-war anthem. It was used in the Vietnam war. Lennon and Ono supported the Clydeside UCS workers' work-in of 1971. 'Imagine' is a living proof of political orientation and involvement that dominated Lennon's public life. He supported and promoted the notion of 'feminism'.

Mark David Chapman assassinated Lennon in Manhattan, and then he was admitted at New York City's Roosevelt Hospital on 8th December 1980 at the early age of 40. Lennon was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame posthumously in 1987 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.
